Villas New Jersey Julie ~ Joy

"Joy is the most magnetic force in the universe." ~Danielle LaPorte

Julie is one of the most exuberant people I have ever met.  She is able to channel her inner child and exude play and fun in a way that inspires me beyond words.  She is spiritual, passionate, joyful, and possesses a glow that you can't help but be drawn to.

The beach is Julie's happy place and she loves to dance so we combined her loves and set the scene for her to open up and experience freedom.  We played music, opened our eyes and hearts to the beauty of nature, and giggled and danced through this joyful session.

Our story is a little unique as our original destination of choice is not where we ended up shooting her session.  The universe had other plans for us as we made a quick decision to photograph her at the Bay rather than the Ocean.  We ended up with a spectacular sunset on our own "private" beach and could not be more thrilled with the results!  It was a beautiful lesson to go with the flow and let the universe guide you because the magic that occurred was extraordinary.

Alloway New Jersey Tiffany ~ The Woodsy Witch

"An artist is typically a being that is filled with so much passion, love, or pain for certain lands, people, ideas,or images that all they can do with that overflow is bleed it out by creating. And with this type of art, the energy will be shifted from the depths of them and into the depths of the audience to be felt. It is a dance. A transference. An intimacy. It is to touch and awaken another human in a place they hadn't known was aching, or sleeping. Both are opened. Both are nourished. Both are transformed." ~Victoria Erickson.

Tiffany is a metaphysical artist to the core.  She creates beautiful dream catchers, jewelry, and more.  It's a therapeutic process for her as she struggles with autoimmune illness as well as cognition and physical limitations.   In the past she has battled PTSD from sexual trauma and assault as well as depression.  Through creating art she heals and brings joy to so many others with her magical creations.

Nature plays a big role in Tiffany's life and it's also a large part of her healing journey.  So I aimed to capture her inner light as she gazed at the trees and embraced their healing properties.  She is a fierce warrior fighting for her health and peace of mind so it was important to capture her fire within , her shadows, and her light.

This woodsy witch possesses so much strength and beauty and it was an honor to connect with her and share this magical experience with her.  The snow covered landscape and the stillness of winter's beauty provided the perfect backdrop as we ebbed and flowed through the woods exchanging energy, love, and light.

Alloway New Jersey Mandy ~ Self Confidence

"I've learned that fear limits you and your vision.  It serves as blinders to what may be just a few steps down the road for you.  The journey is valuable, but believing in your talents, your abilities, and your self worth can empower you to walk down an even brighter path.  Transforming fear into freedom-how great is that?" ~Soledad O'Brien

Mandy is radiant.  She has an alluring presence about her as she presents herself with such confidence and style.  She loves making others feel beautiful and confident and her story is one of learning how to do so for herself.

Mandy suffered low self esteem as a child into adulthood.  Her struggles and adversities have included loss, abuse, and infertility which led to severe anxiety and panic attacks when she entered motherhood.  Through this journey she discovered a passion for helping others through positive self talk and self image.

I absolutely loved tapping into Mandy's self confidence and allowing her to shine in back roads and open fields.  We chased the sunlight and laughed along the way while creating beautiful art together.  I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to capture her beautiful heart and soul.

Alloway New Jersey Alicia ~Out of the Darkness and Into the Light

"I knew that my bright light was still inside of me and I would get it back to share and shine bright with others." ~Alicia Thorp

Alicia is a survivor.  She is a strong, courageous, and inspiring light worker.  Her story is one of overcoming adversity and sharing hope and inspiration with others through her journey.  She made the choice to not be a victim of domestic, verbal, and mental abuse by allowing her inner light to shine brighter than the storm life was taking her through.  She believes that you are not what has happened to you, you are who you become through difficult times.

We felt that photographing Alicia coming out of the darkness and into the light was the best way to visually display her story.  I strived to capture her strength and beauty by tapping into her inner light and allowing her to celebrate her free spirit.  Yoga and mindfulness have played a huge part in her healing journey so we wanted to represent that part of herself as well.

I have so much gratitude for this incredible experience with Alicia.  Her ability to find peace within herself after experiencing so much pain is truly remarkable.  She opened herself up to me in such a vulnerable way and I truly appreciate her courage and open heart.  I believe we created magic together...

Alloway New Jersey Jennifer Roth~ Vulnerability is the only bridge to build connection

“Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy—the experiences that make us the most vulnerable. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.” ~ Brené Brown

January 11, 2017 It was my 40th birthday and I was not in a good head space.  I was in the midst of doing some heavy inner work and I could feel a transformation happening within me.  The only way I can describe it is I was a butterfly in the process of emerging from its cocoon. I was ready to spread my wings but there was still work to do and I needed to trust the process and feel it through.  I was peeling layers back that were covering wounds.  Much like the way you tear a bandage off of an injury to give it air to breathe and heal but it still needs time.

It's amazing how we have this ability to heal ourselves but we must first recognize our injuries.  It's easy to suppress emotions through food, alcohol, or drugs but it's only a temporary fix.  I was at a point in time that my body was screaming at me to wake up and it was not going to allow me to suppress anymore.  I didn't have a choice in the matter it was time to confront suppressed emotions and allow myself to actually feel them.  It sucked.  I won't lie but I knew that it was necessary.  I had to truly feel that anger, sadness, frustration, fear, guilt, and hurt.  I had to connect with these emotions in a way that I'd never allowed myself to do.

It was so heavy but I released a little each day through crying and talking with people I felt safe with.  Each day I felt a little lighter.

Once I incorporated movement into the mix I really started to feel things shift.  I started walking regularly with a friend and I started practicing yoga regularly.  Just moving my body in motion truly changed things for me because it tuned me into myself in a much more powerful way.  I started to feel more connected with my body through yoga and it felt good to push myself physically and mentally.  It started to assist me in my journey of self discovery in a way that I yearned for.  I started to connect my mind, body, and soul and it welcomed me back to my true self.

This is why I am so passionate about photographing women doing yoga.  Because I experience the power of yoga every time I get on my mat.  I know how huge it is to allow yourself to go to that place within yourself and reconnect with your true spirit.  I am now committing to following my passion for yoga and to go even deeper.  I am practicing regularly and feeling things shift within myself in the most positive way.  I want to continue this journey and pursue yoga teacher training so that I can truly experience all that yoga has to offer and I want to share my journey with you.

I will be documenting my progress mentally and physically and I'm prepared to get real.  I'm going to the most vulnerable place I've ever gone.  I will be healing and growing and I want to take you along with me.  So hold my hand and hang on tight because shit's about to get real.
